Gastric Ulceration

Sameera (dr.) Abbas Naturopath View profile

Both are good probiotics, however the difference between the two is that Reuteri contains the strain Lactobacillus reuteri, which is mainly used for gastrointestinal infections and any bowel intolerances that cause diarrhoea. Probiflora Intensive contain 9 different probiotic strains which are used for candida, food allergy & sensitivities, dairy (lactose) intolerances, skin rashes & irritations (eczema).

A probiotic specifically for ulcers should contain Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium Lactis, which neither of the above contain, as these two strains will help prevent the reduction of stomach acidity, which is needed for the growth of healthy bacteria.

Ultra Flora (Amipro) is a product containing these two strains and contains 15 billion organisms per capsule.

Another two products containing similar strains are the Udo’s Choice Probiotique, containing 8 strains, and The Real Thing Pro-Probiotic, containing 10 strains.

Wellness Warehouse stocks all of the above mentioned Probiotics. Please feel free to visit on of Natural Medicine Dispensaries for further advice. You can also purchase these products online by contacting onlineshop@wellnesswarehouse.com

As you have been prescribed a variety of medication, there is some concern about an accurate diagnosis. Have you ever had a gastroscopy? This would help determine if your symptoms could indeed be related to stomach ulceration. A probiotic is always a very good option to restore the flora in your gut, as the antibiotics may have caused disturbances.
I also feel that maybe Candida should be addressed as well as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which I highly recommend you try the integrative medical route.
Please feel free to visit our Natural Dispensary where the approach is fourfold i.e. 1) Remove antigens, such as Candida, 2) Re-inoculate with friendly bacteria, 3) Replace eg enzymes, fibre & lastly 4) Repair the damaged mucosa. You can also arrange to see one of our varied Wellness Practitioners at the WellClinic at Kloof. You can make an appointment by ringing 021 487 5425. Regards & best wishes. Felicia
