Dear R

Thank you for your question.

I suggest that you visit your family planning sister at the clinic which supplied you with Nordette and ask the sister to do a pregnancy test for you, even if it is just for peace of mind. There is too little information given so far to determine if there is a pregnancy or not, so please follow my suggestion through with this appointment.

Kind regards

Angela

Hi Angela,I have been on Nordette for a few years without any problems - not one. My cycle is completely regular, with a delay of a few hours in the onset of my period making me wonder if i am pregnant! I was also switched from nordette to oralcon a few months ago. Although this did not effect my cycle and i remained regular, I did start having regular headaches. I recently had my wisdom teeth removed under local anaesthetic. Unfortunately this had to be done in two sessions because there was an infection on the one side of my mouth and I had to come back after a week of antibiotics (ampicillan). The week after taking the antibiotic I was due to start my period and it never came. I am now two weeks late but pregnancy tests say i am not pregnant. I am not sure what to make of it. My husband and I had decided to go off the pill in order to start a family after this last period was due so i am now currently not on the pill. This, however was only after the period being late. I know that antibiotics can alter the effectiveness of the pill and my husband and i were sexually active during the series of dentist visits and antibiotics. What i am confused about is how i have now suddenly missed a period after being completely regular for years and years AND pregnancy tests come back negative. Totally confused. Not been under any additional stress, no other health issues, no alterations in diet, not overweight, no other medications, nothing that might trigger missed period.

I hope you can shed some light. Like I said, we have decided we are ready for kids but this is like being in limbo and its torturous!

Hope to hear from you soon

Wendy

Dear Customer

It is my advice that you return to your initial chiropractor and inform him/her that you are still in severe pain .While you are there ,ask the practitioner to give you a definitive diagnosis .Possibly you have not yet had sufficient treatment or if this is not the case ,an appropriate referral is indicated ( physiotherapy and therapeutic massage often combine well with chiropractic). Very often ,muscle spasm can take days and even weeks to subside .Try avoid poor posture and unsatisfactory ergonomic positions ,long hours on the computer or your cell phone are typical causes of repetitive strain injuries and muscle spasm. Where your spike mat may be beneficial , the severity of your pain warrants the use of an anti –inflammatory and /or a muscle relaxant which can be prescribed by your medical doctor or OTC at the pharmacy.

Kind regards

Dr Garth Roberts

Dear Debbie

Thank you for your query. I fully comprehend your dilemma. Mirelle has to be prescripted by a medical doctor - it is not provided elsewhere without this piece of paper. The new replacement GP has advised you correctly, as according to legislation this is how she must practice for your particular request.

My instinct is to advise you to stay with Mirelle as it has suited you so perfectly.

However, there is a way round for you due to unwanted costs. If you look up the municipal clinic services in your area, telephone and request of the nursing sister on duty if she provides government family planning, and on what days this service is provided. Also ask if she works on an appointment basis. Family planning as a service is free, although some areas may charge a small fee - don't forget to ask! There are many women who cannot afford family planning privately, and the government service is there for this reason.

As Mirelle is only prescripted by a general practitioner or gynaecologist, Nordette may be the most suitable contraceptive pill under government family planning, as an alternative for you.

All the best of luck!

Warmest regards

Angela

Hi

There is no scientific proof that grey hair can be reversed, however we do have natural products that assist in reducing the onset of grey hair such as Chinaherb - Replenish Essence (this product consists of the Chinese herb He Shou Wu and other Chinese herbs), and Inositol (a B-type vitamin). These products help reduce early appearance of white and grey hair.

There are certain conditions that may cause early onset of grey hair such as Vitamin B12-deficiency Anaemia, Thyroid disease, Vitiligo, Early Menopause and smnoking. Addressing and treating these may help prevent or reduce the occurrence of grey hair.

Amla paste (to apply topically), wheat grass and blackstrap molasses are herbs&foods that may help with premature grey hair, because they strengthen the blood and kidneys (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

Congratulations on stopping the ephedra diet pills. I would definitely not recommend them. They were actually banned in the US in 2004. The Ephedra herb stimulates your heart and central nervous system, suppresses appetite and is a diuretic (increases urination). The side effects are many, including abdominal distress, nervous system disturbances, dizziness, muscle weakness and damage.

Water retention is often related to the hormonal fluctuations of ones menstrual cycle. Some natural diuretics which can assist in getting rid of excess water are the vitamin B6 and Dandelion. Dandelion can be taken as a tincture, tablet or tea. For further advice please consult with one of our practitioners at our Natural Medicine Dispensary.

Cellulite occurs when fat cells in the hypodermis (the deepest layer of skin) become over-inflated from an increase in fat storage. The fat cells protrude up through the connective tissue causing dimpling. Several factors influence fat storage and whether a person has cellulite and how much they have. Your genes, your gender, the amount of fat on your body, your age, and the thickness of your skin are all associated with the amount of cellulite you have or how visible it is.
Lifestyle factors can also contribute to the appearance of cellulite. For example, indulgence in fats, refined sugars, alcohol, coffee and tea. Cigarettes are also toxic. There is no cure for cellulite, but we can certainly help to minimize it. A diet low in fat, refined sugar, alcohol and caffeine will help to reduce it. Water helps to flush out toxins and add moisture to the skin ,which can improve cellulite’s appearance, and exercise helps to improve circulation and reduce excess fat storage. I would advise you continue with a healthy diet (watching your portion sizes) with plenty of water (2-3 litres a day) and exercise. See our Health Notes Section online for Healthy Eating Ideas. Regards Melissa (Dietician)
