Vertigo is a type of dizziness that causes a shift in one’s balance. It produces a false sensation that one’s surroundings

are moving or spinning and it is accompanied with nausea and loss of balance.

Vertigo has a few causes namely:
Inner ear disorders. A condition known as Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) causes inner ear dysfunction, of which its cause is unknown but upper respiratory tract infections or a mild blow to the head may be responsible for this

Cranial nerve no.8 (acoustic nerve) disorders

Motion sickness

Meniere’s Disease – a disorder that comprises of vertigo, hearing loss and tinnitus

Certain central nervous system conditions such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, brain stem tumours and heart attacks

Bacterial & Viral infections affecting the inner ear, such as herpes zoster

Certain drugs can also affect & damage the inner ear like antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs & diuretics
