Fibromyalgia

Gabriell (dr.) Prinsloo Medical Doctor View profile

Hi

As you know, fibromyalgia causes general muscle fatigue and pain so muscle weakness could result in difficulty talking as well as impaired vision.

Fibromyalgia is incredibly frustrating as it is not completely understood by allopathic medicine. This is especially frustrating for the patient who experiences such extreme fatigue and pain, and has difficulty functioning.

I find that the best way to approach it is to make sure that the body is functioning at an optimal level through specific nutritional supplements, appropriate exercise, good sleep, as well as working through emotional triggers. I have had great results when exploring how the body mirrors our emotions, and healing the body through working with the emotions. Lastly, hypnotherapy can be a VERY effective tool for pain management if needed.

New research is also starting to shed light on factors that may lead to fibromyalgia. I am currently researching this so am unable to give details just yet. But I am feeling quite excited at the new ways of approaching healing fibromyalgia.

Is she in Cape Town? If she is, then I suggest making an appointment for a consultation with me. If not, let me know where she is based and I’m happy to help find an appropriate person to help her. My email is: gabriell@skylightsanctuary.com

Warm regards

Gabriell

Fibromyalgia
is quite multi-faceted. Homoeopathy offers effective, safe and
individualised treatment for this condition. I am glad to hear that you
are taking vitamins and supplements such as MSM, as I find that the
most effective way to treat fibromyalgia is to combine the homoeopathic
treatment with correct nutrition and targeted supplementation (such as
the MSM).

I would strongly encourage you to have a consultation with a
homoeopath, so that you can get individualised treatment that covers
your physical and mental/emotional picture. The selected remedy or
remedies will treat all the symptoms of the condition and in time,
hopefully some of the drugs could be reduced or ceased, to eliminate
the possibility of long-term side-effects.

Consulting with a health
care professional can also aid you in taking all the correct
supplements, to ensure you are getting the most effective nutrients at
the most effective doses.

To your health, Dr. Megan Jones (Registered
Homoeopath)

Depression often accompanies Fibromyalgia. However, there has been some evidence that Major Depressive Disorder can also lead to Fibromyalgia but there is not enough findings to support this. Stress can also trigger the development of many other problems in Fibromyalgia such as cardiovascular disease and adrenal gland disorders. Other effects are anxiety, chronic pain, dizziness, memory impairment, impaired coordination, insomnia and palpitations. With Fibromyalgia the immune system is also compromised and this can result in opportunistic bacterial and viral infections.

Psychotherapy would be the proposed treatment for the psychological effects.

5-HTP, which is an amino acid enhances the synthesis of serotonin in the brain and is very beneficial for depression as well as a pain reliever. An amino acid complex, such as Bio-Strath will provide essential protein for repair and rebuilding of muscle tissue and for proper brain function. SAM-e, also an amino acid, is an excellent treatment for
Fibromyalgia as it relieves stress and depression, eases pain and produces antioxidant effects. However, SAM-e should not be taken if you have been diagnosed with manic depressive disorder or taking prescription antidepressants.

GABAtropin which is a superior form of GABA, also a type of amino acid, provides anti-anxiety and calming effects as well as proper brain control.

Melatonin would be used for insomnia and will help regulate sleeping patterns as well as providing potent antioxidant effects and immune boosting properties.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) is needed for protection against cell damage and also helps with reducing pain and fatigue. A dose of at least 2000mg of Omega 3 (EFA) should be
taken on a daily basis.

Educating yourself about your condition, regular moderate exercise, eating a well-balanced diet (preferably consisting of vegetables, fruit, raw nuts & seeds, whole grains, skinless chicken & turkey and deep-water fish) will help with the treatment of Fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a difficult condition in that it responds to different treatments for each individual. A lot of research has shown positive results with exercise. Initially the exercise seems to make the pain a little more noticable but then after one to two weeks the fibromyalgia improves and reduces. Exercise should always be the first choice. Other Natural supplements that have shown some improvement are magnesium with the B vitamins, it is important to take them at a therapeutic dose but this needs to be established by your doctor. The pain will not respond too much to pain medication as fibromyalgia is mostly a condition where the muscle connective tissue is inflamed and weak from poor muscle metabolism, this is why exercise helps to improve. regards Dr Chase Webber ND
