Warnings and precautions Health supplements should not be used as a substitute for a healthy diet. High doses of vitamin D can cause, worsen, or precipitate high blood levels of calcium (see Do NOT take PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2). High blood calcium levels can contribute to calcification of the blood vessels, particularly in patients with kidney disease. You should avoid taking PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 if you have a kidney disorder or reduced kidney function. If you have been diagnosed with atherosclerosis (calcification of the arteries), histoplasmosis (lung infection caused by a specific fungus), overactive parathyroid glands, lymphoma (cancer of the cells of the lymph system), or tuberculosis, you may require regular blood tests to monitor your blood calcium levels. Speak to your doctor if you are not sure. The absorption of the vitamin K in PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 requires the presence of bile. If you have a biliary disorder, you may require co-administration of bile salts to ensure adequate absorption of vitamin K. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. You need to strictly adhere to the dosage instructions if you are receiving haemodialysis (see How to take PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2). Excessive intake of vitamin K has been associated with soft tissue calcification in patients on haemodialysis. Soft tissue calcification may lead to lumps, bone or joint pain, limitation of range of motion, muscle pain or fatigue, or muscle cramping. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. If you a bleeding disorder due to liver disease, please speak to your doctor about the use of PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2. It may not be effective to address bleeding tendencies resulting from liver disease. A varied diet is the most effective and safe way to achieve good nutrition, health, body composition as well as mental and physical performance. Other medicines and PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 Always tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medicine. (This includes all complementary or traditional medicines.) Do NOT take PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 if you are also taking warfarin (see Do NOT take PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2). Vitamin K may reverse the effects of warfarin. Before taking PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2, please discuss the use of the following medicines or substances with your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare provider: -Aluminium-containing compounds, such as phosphate binders, if you have been diagnosed with kidney failure. You should avoid taking PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 unless it is under the supervision of your treating doctor. -Medicines for heart failure or abnormal heart rhythms, such as digoxin, verapamil, or diltiazem. You must strictly adhere to the dosage instructions (see How to take PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2). You may also require regular blood tests to monitor your blood calcium levels. -Calcipotriene for the treatment of psoriasis – you must strictly adhere to the dosage instructions because, if used excessively, calcipotriene in combination with PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 may lead to high blood calcium levels. You may have to go for regular blood tests to monitor your calcium levels. -Water pills (diuretics) – you may require monitoring of your blood calcium levels. -Coenzyme Q10 because it is chemically similar to the vitamin K2 in PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 and may have additive effects. Combining PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 with complementary medicines containing coenzyme Q10 should be avoided. PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 may alter the way that certain medicines, such as atorvastatin, are broken down by the liver. This may alter or reduce the blood levels of such medicines. If you are taking other medicines and you feel that they are no longer effective, please inform your doctor or pharmacist. Pregnancy and breastfeeding If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare provider for advice before taking PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2. PHYTOMIST VITAMIN D3 & K2 at the recommended dosage of 4 sprays daily is safe to use during pregnancy and while you are breastfeeding.
